Be part of the first writing courses from Curtis Brown Creative to be held in Dubai, UAE!

The writing school of major UK literary agency Curtis Brown has a fantastic track record, with 64 former students going on the get commercial publishing deals. Now, Curtis Brown Creative has teamed up with the Emirates Literature Foundation to bring bestselling author Laura Barnett (The Versions of Us, Greatest Hits) to Dubai to teach two courses for new and experienced writers.

Both the courses will take place at the Creative Space in the Crowne Plaza, Dubai Festival City and includes lunch each day at Anise restaurant in the adjoining InterContinental hotel.

Laura Barnett

Laura Barnett is the author of the number-one bestseller The Versions of Us (2015), which has been translated into 24 languages, and was shortlisted for Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards. Her second novel, Greatest Hits, was published in 2017, with an accompanying soundtrack album by the musician Kathryn Williams. As well as teaching creative writing for Curtis Brown Creative, she has also taught for Guardian Masterclasses and is a lecturer in creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University’s writing School.

Creative Writing Course: Emerging Writers

If you’re bursting to write, but don’t know where to start, this creative writing course from bestselling author and Curtis Brown Creative tutor Laura Barnett is the course for you.

Laura will lead a three-day course for 15 beginner writers, with a focus on character and place. The course features tutor-led discussion to inspire ideas; writing exercises to get those creative juices flowing; work-sharing to help you make progress; and expert teaching sessions to give you the tools to continue. Creative Writing Course: Advanced Creative Writing

If you’re at work on a novel or short story, and you would like some expert teaching to help you develop it and write it to the best of your ability, join this intensive three-day advanced creative writing course for 15 writers, taught by bestselling author and Curtis Brown Creative tutor Laura Barnett.

The course features creative writing workshops with the tutor and fellow writers to bring new perspectives to each participant’s practice, and offers the chance to delve deeper into the processes that underpin good writing, editing and pitching through teaching, discussion and writing exercises. It is also an opportunity to create a network of support and insight that can be invaluable to writers at any and every stage of their career. Every student will also receive a 20-minute individual tutorial with Laura focused on their work in progress – and the course will culminate in an elevator pitch workshop with verbal feedback from Laura.

This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 who is writing a piece of prose fiction – whether a novel or a shorter work. Raise your writing game and learn to pitch your work to agents/publishers with the experienced teaching perspective of a best-selling author.

You will need to submit the opening of your novel-in-progress or short story (up to 3,000 words) and a one-page synopsis when you pay the refundable deposit to book your place. The deadline for your submission is 19 September. The outstanding balance is due before 26 September 2019.
