New Emirati Writers shown steps to success at Emirates Literature Foundation workshop
Dubai, 15 May, 2016: The next generation of Arabic writers in the Emirates were given an exclusive insight into the creative writing process at a motivational workshop on Thursday, 12 May. Held by the Emirates Literature Foundation in partnership with the National Media Council and entitled ‘Journey of the Pen’, it was conducted by the well-known Emirati author, Shaima AlMarzooqi. Over 15 budding authors were taken through the creative process, which was aided by the unique setting of the workshop – a dhow cruise that set sail from the picturesque Al Boom Heritage Village.
Ibrahim Khadim, Business Development Director of the Emirates Literature Foundation, said at the event: ‘Part of our remit is to nurture new writers and ensure that they develop effective creative writing skills and this programme was designed to inspire and encourage the new talent in the Emirates. It is just one of the steps the Foundation is taking to celebrate 2016, the UAE’s Year of Reading, helping to build the literary culture in the country. We are very grateful to Shaima for conducting this excellent workshop, and to the National Media Council for sponsoring this evening, and look forward to more such successful partnerships in the future.’
Mr. Rashid bin Khalfan, Acting COO of the National Media Council, commented on the workshop, ‘The Emirates Literature Foundation is the best authority to conduct creative writing workshops. This workshop was particularly innovative, as it was held on a dhow and conducted during a boat cruise along the beautiful Dubai creek. The workshop was a great opportunity for the staff of the council. The practical writing exercises were invaluable and covered the foundations of creative writing.’
The Emirates Literature Foundation was established in 2013 by royal decree from HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Foundation supports and nurtures literature in the UAE and the region through a programme of varied cultural initiatives.
